An actor from ABC's "Desperate Housewives" unearthed the first 2019-W Quarter certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation
Recent US Mint announcement: 10 million quarters with the West Point Mint "W" mint mark will be randomly distributed. These first quarters with a “W” mint mark are rare—less than 1% of 2019-dated quarters will have one.
In 2019, the America the Beautiful Quarters Series will release five 2019-W Quarter designs. The “W” mintmark will limit each design to 2 million pieces.
The inaugural 2019-W Quarter design, honoring Lowell National Historical Park in Massachusetts, was released at the 96th National Coin Week in the third week of April. Coin dealers developed the Great American Coin Hunt this year to promote National Coin Week and coin collecting.
Pyfrom discovered about the expensive 2019-W Quarters a day before he found one in his Burbank, California coffee shop change.
“I had just heard about the Great American Coin Hunt and these ‘W’ quarters the day before,” said 32-year-old Pyfrom “I heard they weren't in circulation, so I was thrilled to find one!”
he local dealer promptly sent the coin to NGC for certification after Pyfrom brought it. NGC confirmed that the currency was their first 2019-W Quarter to arrive. The coin is currently NGC MS 67 and labeled “First Certified” and “Great American Coin Hunt.”
“This is a really exciting time in numismatics” stated NGC President and Grading Finalizer Rick Montgomery. "Mr. Pyfrom's find shows that the U.S. Mint is getting more people to examine their change, which is good for numismatics."
