Man who shot her after friends parked into wrong driveway in New York gets 25 years to life.

Friday, a New York man was sentenced to 25 years to life for killing a 20-year-old woman after she and other teens accidentally pulled into his driveway.

In January, Kevin Monahan was convicted of second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, and tampering for shooting Kaylin Gillis on April 15 after her car, another vehicle, and a motorcycle pulled into his driveway in rural Hebron, 40 miles north of Albany, looking for a party.

At trial, Monahan said he felt frightened by the automobiles and motorbike pulling into his driveway and assumed he was being blocked in.

He activated his floodlights, grabbed a 20-gauge shotgun, and fired a warning shot. Monahan said that he tripped over nails on his deck and accidentally fired the second shot that killed Gillis. At trial, Monahan stated he felt “like my soul is dead.”

For tampering with evidence, he was given a sentence that was shorter and more consecutive.

A few days after the incident, Blake Walsh, who is Gillis' boyfriend, stated that the group realized they were at the wrong location and were driving away when they heard gunfire.

During the time that Walsh was operating a Ford Explorer, he attempted to accelerate, and it was at that moment that the deadly shot traveled through.

According to the authorities, Gillis passed suddenly a significant distance away after the group called 911. After being shot in the neck, Walsh claimed. He claimed that there was terrible cell reception, so the group decided to drive five miles.
