Mark Harmon's 'NCIS' Gibbs gets replaced by a younger actor for 'Origins.' It's who?

Leroy Jethro Gibbs will be younger in "NCIS: Origins." CBS said Monday that Austin Stowell will star in the "NCIS" prequel on Gibbs' early career. He replaces Mark Harmon, who portrayed Gibbs for nearly two decades in the original series.

In 2003, Harmon played "NCIS"'s lead character, Gibbs.  Harmon led CBS's NCIS crew for 18 years until his Oct. 2021 departure. Sean Harmon, Harmon's son, portrays young Gibbs in flashbacks on "NCIS". Harmon, 72, will narrate and executive produce "NCIS: Origins" on CBS in 2024-25.

In 1991, 12 years before NCIS, Stowell's younger Gibbs becomes a special agent at the new NIS Camp Pendleton branch. Stowell, 39, is best known for appearing opposite Lucy Hale in "The Hating Game." He starred in two "Dolphin Tale" films and as U2 spy pilot Francis Gary Powers in Spielberg's 2015 "Bridge of Spies."

Stowell appeared in Hulu's 2019 limited series version of "Catch-22" and the police thriller "Public Morals" with George Clooney, Chris Abbott, and Hugh Laurie.

For a new "NCIS" spinoff, Paramount+ announced on Feb. 28 that Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly will reprise their fan-favorite roles as Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo ("TIVA").

Later this year, Paramount+ will begin production for the untitled series, which will star the TV couple's daughter Tali, for a 2025 premiere.

This story has been discussed for years "Weatherly and de Pablo stated. Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali)'s world will be an action-packed roller coaster of love, danger, tears, and laughter."
