According to authorities, one person was murdered and at least twelve others were injured in a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning at a nightclub in Mississippi. On Sunday, shortly after midnight, gunfire erupted at West Point's Oasis club.
The Clay County Sheriff's Department reported that a woman named Taleese Chandler, who was 20 years old, lost her life and that twelve others were injured.
Officials have stated that preliminary investigations suggest the shooting might have been premeditated.
As far as Scott was concerned, the authorities had the "perception" that "some ongoing issues with different groups. Apparently they were all in the same building."
Many gunmen were allegedly present at the event, according to authorities. There have been no apprehensions. The nightclub is no longer open. In a news release, the sheriff's department stated, "Investigators located multiple caliber shell casings from the scene.".
The sheriff's office estimated that nearly all of the 95% of patrons that night were locals, while the club was hosting an event for an out-of-town promoter.
"The club reported having 14 security guards present for the event, yet it is unclear how guns made it inside of the club," the statement stated.
An investigation is underway involving the state's Public Safety Department, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the West Point police, the sheriff's office, and Homeland Security.
