Saltine Toffee Recipe

Certainly! Saltine toffee, also known as Christmas Crack or Cracker Candy, is a delicious and simple treat. Here's a basic recipe for you:

– 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter – 1 cup brown sugar, packed – Saltine crackers (enough to cover your baking sheet) – 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

– 1 cup chopped nuts (optional) – Sea salt (optional, for sprinkling)

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). 2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange a single layer of saltine crackers on it. Make sure the entire sheet is covered with crackers.

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir continuously until the mixture comes to a boil. Allow it to boil for 3-4 minutes without stirring. The mixture will thicken and become caramel-like.

1. Pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the layer of saltine crackers, spreading it with a spatula to cover the crackers completely. 2. Bake in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes or until the toffee layer becomes bubbly and golden.

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee layer. Allow the chocolate chips to sit for a couple of minutes to melt, and then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee using a spatula.

1. If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts over the chocolate layer while it's still soft. 2. Let the toffee cool completely at room temperature, and then refrigerate for a couple of hours or until the chocolate layer is set. 3. Once set, break the toffee into smaller pieces. You can sprinkle a bit of sea salt over the top for an extra touch.
