Snow might reach 12 feet in California mountains.

The Sierra Nevada mountains in California are still in the midst of a potentially deadly snowstorm that might dump 12 feet of snow before the storm passes. 

Some of the highest mountain peaks can expect gusts of above 100 mph, leading to intense blizzard conditions. Reduced visibility on roads and mountain passes is expected, therefore travel is not recommended. 

Wildfires in Oklahoma and Texas have burned over a million acres, setting a new record. The Smokehouse Creek Fire, which started in the Panhandle of Texas and spread across the entire state, is the biggest wildfire that Texas has ever seen.  

Authorities in Hutchinson County reported one fatality and scores of damaged buildings.

On Thursday, there was some relief from the winds, but on Friday, there will be even stronger gusts, dry weather, and warmer temperatures. 

In the months leading up to the total solar eclipse that will take place in April 2024.
